Also known as Adelaïda Ivanovna, Adelaïda Ivanovna Miüsov.
Adelaida Ivanovna is Fyodor Pavlovitch's first wife and Dmitri's mother, a rich Miusov heiress whose marriage begins with an elopement. She is remembered as beautiful, strong, hot-tempered, and contemptuous of the husband she quickly sees through. Her family accepts the marriage but intervenes when Fyodor tries to seize her property. She leaves him with three-year-old Mitya in his hands and dies in Petersburg after her flight.

Her son Dmitri grows up believing that property from her side of the family should make him independent, a belief that helps sour his dealings with Fyodor Pavlovitch.
III-I. In The Servants’ Quarters
Grigory, who cared for Mitya after she left, is said to have detested Adelaida Ivanovna, in sharp contrast to his reverence for Fyodor's second wife.
III-II. Lizaveta
The story of Fyodor's conduct after news of her death returns in connection with older town rumors, showing how long his first marriage remains part of his public disgrace.
