Dmitri's Confession to Alyosha

Also known as The Confession Of A Passionate Heart, The Confession Of A Passionate Heart In Anecdote, The Confession Of A Passionate Heart Heels Up.

Dmitri draws Alyosha aside and begins telling him the first half of what he calls his tragedy. He speaks about his wild life, his shame, his attraction to degradation, and the story of Katerina Ivanovna's desperate visit for money. The scene is not a formal confession before the Church, but it has the urgency of a man trying to make one trusted brother understand what he is.

III-V. The Confession Of A Passionate Heart—“Heels Up”

Dmitri completes the confession by explaining his engagement to Katerina, his passion for Grushenka, the entrusted three thousand roubles, and his fear that he may kill Fyodor Pavlovitch if Grushenka goes to him.
