Fenya

Also known as Fedosya Markovna.

Fenya is Grushenka's young maid, the granddaughter of the old cook Matryona. When Alyosha and Rakitin visit, she is watching the gate, fetching candles and champagne, and running messages while Grushenka waits in nervous excitement. Her first role is domestic and watchful, but she is already close enough to know her mistress's movements.

VIII-V. A Sudden Resolution

When Dmitri bursts in after Grushenka's departure, Fenya is terrified into telling him that her mistress has gone to Mokroe to the former officer.

IX-I. The Beginning Of Perhotin’s Official Career

Fenya tells Perhotin about the pestle, Dmitri's blood-stained hands, and his words about human blood, helping turn private alarm into official suspicion.

XI-I. At Grushenka’s

After the arrest, Fenya still serves as Grushenka's messenger, summoning Alyosha and bringing the Poles' begging letter into the room.

XI-VI. The First Interview With Smerdyakov

Ivan counts Fenya and her grandmother among the minor witnesses whose evidence weighs heavily against Dmitri in his own mind.
