Fetyukovitch is the celebrated Petersburg counsel brought in for Dmitri. By the eve of trial, the case is famous enough across Russia that he has agreed to come partly for its notoriety, and Alyosha has already tried to put Dmitri's innocence before him. He listens, says little, and has already formed his opinion.
XI-I. At Grushenka’s
By now Fetyukovitch has agreed to take Dmitri's defense, drawn less by the fee than by the case's fame across Russia. The three thousand roubles for the celebrated counsel are raised jointly by Ivan, Katerina Ivanovna, and Madame Hohlakov.

His entrance at Dmitri's trial sends a hum through the crowded court, where his reputation becomes one of the public spectacles of the case.

He begins his defense by attacking the prosecution's psychology and arguing that each fact in the chain collapses when examined by itself.
XII-XIV. The Peasants Stand Firm
By the end of his speech, the public believes he has won, and even he speaks of invisible threads binding counsel and jury before the verdict proves otherwise.
