Image of the Mother of God

Also known as That image of the Mother of God, the Image of the Mother of God, the image of the Mother of God.

The image enters through Fyodor Pavlovitch's drunken memory of Alyosha's mother. He says she kept the feasts of Our Lady and revered the holy image, and he boasts that he once threatened to spit on it to break her mysticism. At this horizon, the object is a sacred household image and a test of cruelty, faith, and memory.

III-IX. The Sensualists

After Dmitri's violent intrusion, Fyodor remembers the image again and offers it to Alyosha as something to take home and keep.

III-XI. Another Reputation Ruined
