Kolya and Alyosha's First Meeting

Kolya and Alyosha's first meeting is the encounter Kolya arranges before entering Ilusha's room. Kolya asks Smurov to summon Alyosha outside because he wants to measure him privately and make the right impression. The meeting begins as a schoolboy's proud performance, but it is driven by Kolya's genuine curiosity about Alyosha.
X-IV. The Lost Dog
