Miracles

Also known as the miraculous, a miracle, the miracle.

Miracles first enter through the narrator's description of Alyosha's realism. For him, faith is not caused by wonders; once he believes, the miraculous becomes part of the world he is prepared to accept. The idea is tied to Father Zossima's reputation for healing and spiritual insight.

II-III. Peasant Women Who Have Faith

The crowd outside the hermitage treats Zossima's blessing as a real source of help, while the narrator keeps the scene physically and psychologically grounded.

IV-I. Father Ferapont

A reported letter from Siberia is received as a new prediction fulfilled, stirring the monks and visitors into expectation around Zossima's approaching death.

VII-II. A Critical Moment

After Zossima's body gives no expected sign of glory, Alyosha's wound is not mere disappointment in a wonder but anguish over what he feels as a failure of higher justice.
