Pan Vrublevsky

Also known as Vrublevsky.

Pan Vrublevsky is the tall Polish companion of Grushenka's former lover at Mokroe. He speaks little at first, but his contemptuous posture and insults make him the heavier, more menacing half of the pair. During the card game and quarrel he backs the other Pole, then is exposed with him over the substituted pack.

VIII-VIII. Delirium

After Dmitri throws him into the side room, Vrublevsky remains locked away with the other Pole while the revel continues.

IX-VIII. The Evidence Of The Witnesses. The Babe

During the inquiry, he confirms the account that Dmitri offered money to make the former lover leave Grushenka.

XI-I. At Grushenka’s

He appears again as the former lover's companion when both Poles sign a humiliating receipt for money.

XII-II. Dangerous Witnesses

At the trial, he and the other Polish witness are damaged when the substituted cards are brought up and their dignity collapses into public laughter.
