The Raising of the Seville Child

Also known as Maiden, arise.

In Ivan's prose poem, Christ appears in Seville and is recognized by the crowd without announcing himself. At the cathedral steps, mourners bring a child's open coffin and the mother begs Him to raise her daughter. The miracle brings cries and sobs from the people, and it also brings the old cardinal face to face with the Prisoner.

V-V. The Grand Inquisitor

The Grand Inquisitor sees the child rise and immediately orders the guards to seize the Prisoner, turning a public miracle into the opening of his accusation.
