Zossima Bows to Dmitri

Also known as bowed down at Dmitri's feet, falling at his feet, That bowing to your brother, Dmitri.

Zossima bows to Dmitri at the height of the scandal in his cell. After Fyodor Pavlovitch and Dmitri have exposed their quarrel before the monks, Father Zossima rises, approaches Dmitri, and deliberately bows down at his feet until his forehead touches the floor. Dmitri is shaken and rushes out, while the others can only wonder what the gesture means.

II-VII. A Young Man Bent On A Career

Rakitin calls the bow a performance and reads it as a calculated sign connected to possible family crime. Alyosha refuses that confidence and can only say he does not know what the elder meant.
