The London hotel near Charing Cross where the newly arrived Sir Henry puts up, and to which an anonymous warning note is addressed, though he and Dr. Mortimer had told no one that they meant to choose it. Chapter V. Three Broken Threads
Holmes examines its register and questions the porter, satisfying himself that the people watching the baronet have carefully avoided lodging in his own hotel. Here Sir Henry rages over the loss of a second, older boot, and before they leave the first one is found returned.
