Dmitri's Arrest at Mokroe

Also known as Mitya's arrest.

Dmitri's arrest at Mokroe begins when officials enter Plastunov's Inn and stop the revel in an instant. The police captain, the prosecutor, the investigating lawyer, and Mavriky Mavrikyevitch appear in the room where Dmitri and Grushenka have withdrawn. Dmitri cries that he understands, and he is formally told that he is charged with the murder of his father, Fyodor Pavlovitch.

The arrest is remembered as the calamity after which Grushenka became seriously ill.

XII-IV. Fortune Smiles On Mitya

At the trial, Grushenka's cry during the arrest is questioned as evidence of what she believed in that moment.
