The Portrait of Hugo Baskerville
Also known as the portrait, this Cavalier, the family picture of old Hugo.
The Baskerville Hall portrait of old Hugo Baskerville, recalled by Dr. Mortimer when he relates that the black-sheep Rodger Baskerville was said to be the very image of the family picture of old Hugo.
Chapter XIII. Fixing the Nets
Seen at last in the gallery, a 1647 Cavalier in black velvet and lace; Holmes, curving his hand over its hat and ringlets, makes the living face of Stapleton spring out of the canvas, proving the man a Baskerville.
Chapter XV. A Retrospection
Holmes confirms the portrait did not lie: it had marked Stapleton, son of Rodger Baskerville, as a true heir of the line.
