Mokroe Girls' Chorus

Also known as the chorus of girls.

The Mokroe girls' chorus is the group of village singers Dmitri demands when he arrives for the revel at Plastunov's Inn. He wants Marya, Stepanida, Arina, and the others gathered for money, sweets, wine, and singing, as on his previous visit. They are part entertainment, part local crowd, drawn into Dmitri's extravagant need to make the night blaze.

VIII-VII. The First And Rightful Lover

The singers gather in the next room while the quarrel with the Poles breaks open and Grushenka's break with her former lover begins.

VIII-VIII. Delirium

The chorus fills the inn with songs and dances, including rough comic turns, until the sudden arrival of the officials makes the house fall silent.

IX-VIII. The Evidence Of The Witnesses. The Babe

Witnesses recall Dmitri treating the chorus and shouting about the sixth thousand, turning the festive disorder into evidence against him.
