Ilusha's Grave

Also known as my grave, there, the churchyard, an expensive one in the churchyard close to the church, the grave, the open grave, the deserted grave.

Ilusha names his own grave while clinging to Captain Snegiryov and Kolya. He asks to be buried by the big stone where he and his father used to walk, and imagines his father visiting him there in the evening with Kolya and Perezvon. At this first mention it is a child's plea not to be forgotten.

Epilogue III. Ilusha’s Funeral. The Speech At The Stone

At Ilusha's funeral, he is buried instead in the churchyard close to the church, where his father leans over the open grave and crumbles bread for sparrows as Ilusha had asked.

Epilogue III. Ilusha’s Funeral. The Speech At The Stone
